Faster Internet for Free!
Who would not want faster internet for free? An often overlooked important piece of the speed webpages and other name based services work is related to the time taken for DNS lookups. By default most people are using the DNS provided by their ISP, which in general is not bad and usually as long as you have internet access your ISP servered DNS is available. But have you ever considered using other DNS name servers to perform your DNS lookups? A service called OpenDNS provides free DNS services that claim to be faster than other DNS services. Trying it out is quite simple in that on your router (or machine if you don't have a router) you use the OpenDNS name servers instead of your ISP's name servers. Im currently using this at home and I have to admit I think there is a noticeable difference in the time pages are loading. So try it out for yourself, its free and it will likely speed up your internet.
